I look in your face
As I stumble from my car
Purposely forgetting my cane
Unmistakable instant judgment
Is scribbled across your starring
Glare while you grab your phone
Frowning towards my daughter
I laugh and turn back to my car
Parked in the Handicap zone
I grab my cane to pass you again
Watching you stop the call
Not wanting to look my way
I cannot resist muttering
“So, you think I’m drunk
Well sorry, I have MS”
*I was thinking this piece was too bitchy but as my daughter said, “Its true.”

at times,
your work simply reflect a segment of life,
which is the most important part of poetry…
powerful, being aggressive on some occasion is cool.
Aug 24, 2010 @ 21:21:11
I love this poem. And the truth is told best. And
I love “instant judgment”.

Thank you! It helps so I don’t smack someone. jk I write poetry about MS to help me and other people. I will have a poetry book out next year only with MS related poems to hopefully help others with MS cope with the disease.
Aug 26, 2010 @ 17:00:12
Wow! This is a powerful poem. Thank you for writing it!
Aug 26, 2010 @ 23:19:23
Insightful poem and so true. People like to make their own judgments without even knowing what others have to deal with. Have a wonderful week.

Oh my, this is sad. I’m sorry but I’m not surprised it happens … and that folks don’t notice the cain and can only think of one reason a person might be wobbly…With me, they always assume I was a smoker and often imply that I deserve what I got for being so stupid … I’m a very boring and conservative (in some ways) person. I never indulge and never have indulged in smoking … Oh well …
Hang in there …
And you have yet another well-deserved award:
The Elegant Blogger award

Congratulations! … and, obviously, you’ve earned a fan for whatever that might be worth.
Blessings to Amanda …

I have learned to ignore people but sometimes I’m in certain moods and have some words I pass to them. I have a double whammy with people and their judging. MS and being naturally thin actually underweight right now and have been trying to gain for years. Man, I think I get more shit and nasty looks because that actually. Thank you for the award Jamie…..why do people think you are high? you can send me an email if you wish ziibi@live.com
ziibi is River in Ojibwe and River is my given name. 🙂
Aug 31, 2010 @ 16:03:22
Thank you everyone!

Mmm… I understand this. I’ve had looks from people when I’ve had low blood glucose and my speech is slurred. People jump to the wrong conclusions.
It’s not bitchy. Far from it.

Thank you, Val! People do all the time. It sure makes you look at yourself.
By the way your art is beautiful! 🙂
